warm weather

We had a great, HOT weekend here in Atlanta. I finally went to the Decatur Arts Festival, and I also took G to the park. He swung for the first time and loved it.

After this weekend, and the intense heat, I'm really wanting to find some cute sandals so I'm not always wearing my old Teva flip flops. Another way to work on my goal, and step up the wardrobe. Just have to find the right ones to save for...and these sandals might be in the running. So cute and summery. I wish they weren't quite as expensive, but they'll definitely go on my wishlist.

scrabble magnets

I'm always loving a good magnet for the refrigerator, and these scrabble tile magnets are perfect (since scrabble used to be a huge part of my adolescent years). I actually remember my first seven letter word - Tabasco. Now though, so many years later, I don't think it was a valid word since it's a proper name. Maybe my dad was being nice...

I digress. Back to the magnets...

Simple and sweet. Now I just need to go searching for an old scrabble set.

memory game

I used to love playing memory as a kid, and I always felt so lucky when the memory game popped up in Mario (it always seemed like the other player got it every time).

Anyways, I've seen a lot of memory games around pinterest, which I hope to make for G one day, but there's something about anything miniature that gets me every time. and this is one cute miniature memory set. Inexpensive and easy to make - that's my kind of project. Head over to Dandee for instructions and photos so you can make your very own set.

The mini set might have to wait until G's old enough to understand that everything doesn't have to go in the mouth.

my quilt

On Saturday, I was able to work on my quilt that I started, oh, three years ago. It's still a work in progress, but this weekend I was able to finish my squares, clean/cut them, and start sewing them together. There are 16 squares all together. Here you can see two rows that I need to sew together. Hopefully the next time I'm in NC, I'll get another lesson. and hopefully it won't be another 3 years.

i love this mobile

Whew. What a weekend.

G had an upset tummy towards the end of last week and then we went to North Carolina to visit family. Every time we go, I am reminded of why I love NC so much. It's just beautiful and so much more relaxed than Atlanta. Ever since leaving Appalachian State University, a part of my heart will always be in NC.

It's Monday, the beginning of the work week, and I have a post late for you guys. I saw this mobile on pinterest and wanted to share.

I love the colors and circles. I want to try and make a similar mobile for one of the three babies due in December.

Hope you all had a great weekend, and here's to a good week!

backyard scrabble

I grew up playing scrabble almost every weekend with my dad. This outdoor scrabble board would be so cool. When we own a house, I'd really love to try and make one for ourselves.

One can dream, right?

fringe garland

I know I know...you're thinking, how many garlands is this lady going to blog about? I just can't resist. I love garlands. They make me happy. Plus, I'm storing all these ideas away for later use - since I recently found out that 3 of my friends are all expecting their first baby in December ( I hope I hope I hope that at least one will be a little girl).

This garland just looks so fun and would have been perfect for cinco de mayo.

oh, crewcuts...

I used to always be a watch wearer. ALWAYS. That is until my swiss army watch broke. That was 5 years ago. and I haven't worn one since.

I kind of miss it, and have recently been looking for a replacement. I've had my eye on a few, and even came close to buying this
colorful watch from paper source, but never pulled the trigger.

This
watch popped up over on pinterest and I think I've found my watch. I'm kind of intimiated by the neon coral so I might get moss. What do you think? Bright or Dark?

vellum mobiles

Color color everywhere! I'm totally in love with these colorful mobiles. and they are so easy to make!

I think a few of these would look perfect in a little girl's nursery. It's a good thing I have three friends that are expecting. At least one should be a girl, right?

DIY: magnet terrariums

Aren't these so pretty? I'm filing this away for a later project that I can do with G. It seems like a fairly adaptable idea to grow little seedlings.

Read all about this project and how to make some for your own home over at Ruffled. Lovely idea!

birthday goals

It's my birthday! I'm 27 today. All of a sudden I don't feel like that girl just out of college. It's taken me 5 years, but my age is finally telling me that I'm an adult.

The biggest thing that I would like to work on this year is focusing on my life and goals. It's hard balancing being a mom and working full time. I'm not great at it, but it's something I can work on with each passing day.

I think the main thing that will help me with this is to stop reading so many blogs. Not that they aren't all great and amazing, but I find myself falling victim to comparing my life to these beautiful blogs. and that's never a good thing.

I'd also like to be better about taking time to make myself feel good about my appearance. I know that sounds vain, but seriously, I'm usually in jeans and a solid tee. Even at work (I'm in a lab all day, so I don't try to look good). I've never been a make-up-kind-of-girl, but that doesn't mean I can't try to dress nice. So this year I hope I can work on building a more professional look and wardrobe. For starters, I'd love to pair
this dress in black with these sandals in turquoise. Throw in a small and simple pendant necklace, and I'd be set.

And finally, another goal for this next year is to open an Etsy shop. Keep watching for updates and progress on this project. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

To kick start my birthday, this morning we're having a little family photoshoot. My mom gifted me with a groupon last year for my birthday and we're now just getting around to using it. I should have used it for newborn pictures of G, but that didn't happen. So a 1 year shoot and birthday shoot will be just as good. Hopefully. If G stays still long enough.

a beautiful wine box garden

Everytime I've walked through the wine section at our local Kroger, I have always wanted to ask what they do with all of their wooden wine boxes. I'd buy them if they sold them. They're so pretty and I could probably think of a million things to use them for, even if it's just additional storage.

So when I came across this image, I fell in love with this little garden. If I had any kind of green thumb, I would be all over those wine boxes at Kroger and making a little garden for myself.

Maybe one day I can start small with a little herb garden. I hear they are pretty resillant.

You can read all about how this beautiful container garden came to be right here.

cinco de mayo

Since Cinco de Mayo is this week, a lot of party ideas are popping up across my google reader.

and because Cinco de Mayo happens to be my birthday, I always think it's a day worth celebrating.

So to add to some of the fun, I thought I'd share this tutorial that I spotted on Hip Hip Hooray so you can make your own mini pinatas. Happy crafting!
